I really love your pics of J-Dolls. They didn't really spark my interest on stock images, but they are downright beautiful on your photos!

Thanks smile This is a function of a) low sun at this latitude at this crummy dark time of year, and b) me never getting going before mid-afternoon cos I'm such a night owl Dead

Thank you! One of those shoots where the difficulty factor starts going up as you add pieces... both dolls and plaque fell over a few times...

Yay! J's are really gorgeous. I like almost all of them, but it's true the stock photos never really show a doll's potential. They have very elegant faceups and many have beautiful eyes. I need to give mine more camera time.

Snapshot time this week... almost missed this week's photo as it hasn't been a particularly good week and now we have snow & freezing rain, so there goes outdoor photography for a bit. Why do I live in such a cold place Cry

This is Pearl (according to her box). I got her for $10 in a mostly-household-junk secondhand shop. The original plan was to send her to a friend who I thought was getting a bit interested in dolls, because she'd posted pix of a couple. But Pearl needs eyelashes on the left side, and before I could deal with that, one of the friend's dolls arrived in my mailbox. ...Oh, so, you're not going to get into dolls then...? (enabling fail)
So Pearl stayed, and she still needs eyelashes.

Bonus closeup. Isn't she cute. Her outfit is lovely & very detailed too.

Her outfit is really elaborate! How big is she? 18 or 14 inches?

Gorgeous outfit and so detailed!
And her curls/ringlets!!

From the distance, it's hard to tell she's missing eyelashes, but you could certainly see it close up

That is quite the amazing costume she's wearing! I'm sure she must have originally cost considerably more than ten dollars. She photographs well, and I like the quick but appropriate backdrop you created for her photo debut.

As for living in such a cold place... at least you're near the sea, so there's that.

You can buy fake eyelashes made for humans from a store cosmetic section and cut them to size, then glue them with school glue. Works well!

She is just under 17", counting hair & hat.

Yep, I was surprised how nice it was once I got her out of the squishy box.

Heh. Yeah, there's that... although walking up the beach into a screaming nor'wester isn't all that fun. I imagine she was worth more than $10 too; I think I got a good deal!

I have some from Mimiwoo that I got some time ago because I wanted to give Scarlett eyelashes. That didn't work too well, so, sometime I'll have a go at trying to put them on Pearl.
(Ugh, I miss the multi-quote feature!)

Well, technically it's still "this week", cos I'm still up. After a too-long stretch of "not particularly good" weeks, this one was... well... kinda lost for words.
So this week's pic is in honour of my dad, who, after a too-long and miserable decline in the nursing home, is, I hope, in a better place now. Cry

Very sorry to learn of your dad's passing. I trust he is, as you say, in a better place.

I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm also glad your dad has been freed from his suffering. I wish you a lot of strenght!

I'm so sorry to hear of the tough few weeks, and hope he is a better place too. Look after yourself in the next while.

it's a lovely shot in his honour.

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a lovely photo tribute for your father.

Thank you, guys. Dolly therapy and the doll community has been a great source of comfort through the last few rotten years. I am very thankful for that.

I intended to show a few more childhood dolls in the last few weeks, but this plan has been pre-empted by a public service announcement.

Hee hee! Your response to Flickr's... or actually, SmugMug's heavy-handed tactics is both eloquent and appropriate.
