I think fun doll boxes make keeping in box seem a bit less... upsetting in a way? It can be like it's a piece of art, and the doll and the box are both part of that art.

71. MIB: Disney 17" Talking Merida
[Image: 51971563_9c960e93f16f9b368677b3a7678e451f_standard.jpg]
Merida is my favourite of the Princesses. It was a common joke from family and friends when the movie came out that Disney had made me into a character at last, because our looks were very similar. The only big difference now is that my hair has darkened and the curls are not quite as mad as they can be, though it still happens if we get enough good weather during the summer. Anyway, point is I did my best to get as many of the dolls as I could but the talking one did not get released into my local Disney Store. Despite the fact I live in Scotland, where the movie was set.

So to eBay I went and bid on a couple - just in case I didn't win one, you understand. Well, I ended up winning both, so one was deboxed and one has been kept in box since then. While her dress is unnecessarily covered in glitter, it's still a good representation of the main outfit she wears in the movie and as a bonus? She has her bow! Oh, and sorry for the flash in the corner - this was honestly the best of all the shots I took. I've not been having the best luck with lighting lately...

That's a very pretty Merida doll!

That's a fun backstory!

I find boxed figures quite challenging to photograph. I think a lighting set-up and a polarizing filter would be required for optimal results.

Do you have Merida’s accent?

What a pretty Merida doll! I didn't know they made a talking one of her.

I think the face-sculpt is close enough to the limited edition doll they made - which I sadly do not have. (At some point I will get nice pictures of my LE Disney dolls.)

Hmm, I think you're right about that.

I do. I have cosplayed as Merida at a convention in London and had one other person who was also in that costume declare it unfair because I was actually Scottish. I also delighted a ton of little kids who saw Merida, and then heard the actual voice.

This was during Brave being first released in cinemas, when the Disney Store were still making 17" dolls outside of their Limited Edition lines.. She appears on eBay now and then, often a bit more affordable than some of the others of the same height.

72. MIB: Monster High: Adult Collector: Zomby GaGa
[Image: 51971508_342782cf447df346b1cea806e46b93fd_standard.jpg]
This is another one where the doll has remained in the box largely because I like how it looks rather than for any real reason beyond that. Zomby GaGa was one I was able to pre-order and thus got her a bit cheaper than she almost immediately became available for. Sometimes I want to open her up because you just know she would be a fun doll to photograph.

Yaaay, Zomby Gaga! I deboxed mine, but I kept the box, because it's pretty cool.

That's a nice Merida. And you could carefully rebox Gaga... wink

Haha... somebody was taking things a little too seriously...? But I bet you made the day for those little kids. Fun!

Zomby Gaga looks so fun! Another doll I don't blame you on not deboxing.

RE: Werepuppy's (Attempt At) Doll-A-Day 2019! - davidd - 03-14-2019

So cool you got the Zomby Gaga limited edition!

Even more cool that you talk (and look) like Merida!

RE: Werepuppy's (Attempt At) Doll-A-Day 2019! - Elfy - 03-14-2019

The zombie Gaga is great, and it’s one case where she may actually look better in box than out.

RE: Werepuppy's (Attempt At) Doll-A-Day 2019! - Lejays17 - 03-14-2019

I think I’ve seen a picture of you as Merida - maybe on instagram?
Anyway, how cool for the kids that you looked and sounded liked her at the convention. Merida is my 2nd favourite Disney Princess (just ahead of Rapunzel, but Mulan is my absolute favourite).

Zombie Gaga looks good in and out of the box, but the box makes it more special.

The box is really cool, it's like it's a stage. Which I realised is likely the intention.

... I could but I am kind of heavy handed and would likely end up ripping the box a bit.

Yeah, she looks so good in her box. If I am ever lucky enough to find a second at a reasonable price I would love to debox though, because her suit is awesome.

This is a true fact. Weirdly I think a lot of the Monster High Adult Collector dolls are designed to look as nice as possible in box? Maybe. I hope so.

Yeah, I think that's my icon picture on instagram - though that one is from a few years ago when I hadn't done it as well as I did at the big convention. I was happy to make little kids happy that day, it helped considering the venue was just kind of too full and had no real heating. Everyone ended up feeling a bit miserable. (Mulan is in my top five - Merida, Mulan, Tiana, Moana, and ... well the last tends to change.)

Thank you. It's a fun thing, not going to lie.

73. MIB: ToyBiz: Xena: Warrior Princess
[Image: 51971500_2a27a49f71202842ae43b92bdb4d2aa9_standard.jpg]
Ugh, just noticed the flash again, sorry guys. But this is any one of my few MIB dolls that have a bit of a fun backstory. So, Xena: Warrior Princess has been one of my favourite shows since I was a kid, and I had wanted to get one of these dolls when they were first shown in the Argos catalogue back in the day. At the time, however, they were marketed as adult collectibles and my Mum was understandably a bit concerned about getting me that type of doll. (Didn't mind me watching the show though, so go figure.) I was a kid, and didn't get much in the way of pocket money so I just... admired from afar.

Time moved on, and I was never able to find her at a reasonable price after that but I've always looked out. Last summer she appeared - in box - for a really reasonable price on eBay, being roughly what she had been during her original release. Of course, I jumped on it and she finally made her way home to me. So in this case the reason Xena has remained in the box is because it's taken me so long to get hold of her.

RE: Werepuppy's (Attempt At) Doll-A-Day 2019! - davidd - 03-15-2019

Sounds like Xena was always meant to be a part of your collection... once you were ready to handle the power!

Another good backstory, and I'm happy for you that you finally acquired her.
