He's such a cute and cheery figure. I like his outfit too.

Good question. In the era when he dressed like this, all the pictures were in black and white!   LOL

21 April - A Doll A Day 2021:

Hasbro FAO Schwartz Star Wars 12-inch Action Figure 2-Pack
Unopened Box from circa 1998

Package Back. I should have paid more attention. It appears the package
is designed to become a "fold-out diorama" backdrop for the figures.

Imprisoned in Carbonite... or cardboard... for nearly a quarter century!

Wedge Antilles and Biggs Darklighter, two minor characters from the
Star Wars universe who became cult favorites, eventually meriting their own
action figures

First breath of fresh air since 1998

This might take a while. Still not as bad as a typical Bratz doll, though.

So that's what's been behind us for two decades!
Yeah... woulda made a cool diorama backdrop... if some lard-head
hadn't torn it up and thrown it away!

We're free!
Uh huh.
So... what do we do now?
I dunno.

Do these guys look even remotely like Biggs and Wedge? NO! No, they do NOT!

But... having a set of Smothers Brothers action figures is kinda cool!

Worth the Price of Admission just for the Uniform and Accessories

These poor Hasbro Star Wars pilots have been stuck in their box since 1998, or nearly a quarter of a century.

These sets are extremely common on the secondary market (eBay), in unopened mint-in-box condition, usually retailing for $30 to $40 USD, plus another $10 or $15 for shipping.

It appears that more of these sets were sold to "collectors" who kept them pristine in the packaging than were actually sold to kids to play with. Now the Star Wars generation is beginning to die off and their once-treasured trash is turning up on eBay... where it's not selling unless the price is give-away cheap.

I opened the box after snapping this picture, took everything out, and discarded the packaging. Only while posting these pictures did I realize the packaging was intended to be used as a picturesque diorama backdrop. Oh well.

I actually purchased this set recently to use the orange jumpsuits and some of the accessories. It was only after realizing the uncanny resemblance to The Smothers Brothers that I began to consider keeping the figures. If you don't remember The Smothers Brothers... that's okay. They're not really relevant anymore. If you do remember The Smothers Brothers, then you're old enough that your kids are probably selling off your treasured heirlooms on eBay... and cursing your poor taste for not having saved anything of value.

OMG. I can't believe you have this!!!!!!!!
I looked around eBay at these a while ago, being a huge Wedge/X-Wing fan... and indeed, this figure looks NOTHING like him. If I knew a fabulous faceup artist that could fix this figure (or could afford the commission from someone like Noel Cruz) I would get one.
I LOL'd at the Smothers Brothers. (And I am NOT that old, thankyouverymuch).
Maybe they and Frank could start some kind of a show together.
...wait, you didn't realize the backdrop was picturesque while you were taking the picture of it...?? xp LOL

The Wedge/Biggs set just arrived a few days ago. Today I am feeling irritated because I saw a couple on eBay for even better prices than I paid.

I noticed the backdrop was picturesque, but I did not realize it was intended to fold out to make a wide-screen panoramic backdrop... until it was too late. Although actually, it has holes and slots cut in it for the packaging wire ties, so it's not all that great.

Poor Biggs, we hardly knew him.

RE: davidd’s A DOLL A DAY 2021 - Lejays17 - 04-22-2021

Tonner boxes! Wanna know who/what are inside!!! (Whine, whine whine LOL )

The Novi is cute with her small collection of minions.

Handsome bloke with a stylish jacket & hat.

RE: davidd’s A DOLL A DAY 2021 - Lejays17 - 04-22-2021

Wedge looks nothing like his doll. Or is it the other way round??

It looks like a cool collection of items to play with.

Until the revised "director's cut" version of the film was released.  yay

The character played a significant role in the novelization of the movie, which was based on the original script rather than the final edited film.

Speaking of mystery boxes, guess what today's pic will feature?  Tongue

I know, right? If only these actors would put more effort in to portraying their action figure counterparts!  yay

22 April – What Could It Possibly Be?

A doll-related parcel arrived via post today. What, or who, could it possibly be?

RE: davidd’s A DOLL A DAY 2021 - Alliecat - 04-23-2021

Well, it's a Sindy, unless someone re-used a box....?

It’s terrible how little effort they go to LOL

Reminds me of the Belle dolls from the live-action Beauty & the Beast. Emma Watson doesn’t look at all like Justin Bieber, yet the doll version of her is spitting image of him!

One of us?

I have read the novelisation of Star Wars the Adventures of Luke Skywalker quite a few times and listened to the radio play of it, which gives us a much bigger picture of Luke’s life on Tatooine before the droids turned his life around, and I have always appreciated the explanation of the relationship between Luke and Biggs which is never properly covered in the filmed versions.

24 April - Patiently Waiting for a Photo-Story that may Never Come

My enthusiasm for photo-stories and for A Doll A Day is currently at a low ebb.

Enthusiasm for the Dolly Market Forum is, apparently, at a low ebb.

Things are even slower at The Dal House, where my A Doll A Day seems to have single-handedly squelched interest in that forum.

At the Action Man Mobile Operations forum, activity has similarly slowed down.

What is the common denominator among these three forums? I post there on a daily or near-daily basis.

Coincidence?

RE: davidd’s A DOLL A DAY 2021 - Elfy - 04-25-2021

I’ve had that feeling in various forums. Particularly when my post seems to kill the thread.
