Anyway, a few pix of the Dals for some Dal House Forum challenges.

Looking forward to the possibility of carrots bigger than 2", and maybe even an actual beet or 2.  The greens have been terrific, thanks to someone watering much more diligently this year.  It's been very dry.  Must be mindful of the well.

I'm determinedly not looking up anything about them, because I want the fun & surprise of watching the flowers open for the first time.  I canNOT figure out why they've decided to bloom NOW... I've had them probably 15 years and they've never bloomed!!  Is that their lifespan?  Are they like the ahinahina that blooms at the end of its life...?  I could look that up too, but I might accidentally see a photo so I haven't.

The mother plant that shot up the flower does die after this process, but it shoots out a number of offsprings around her before she does so. According to a source, that's the reason for the plant family's name (semper translates to ~forever, vivum to living).
I just had a quick look, and read that Sempervivums take from 2 to 8 years to produce flowers, depending on their species and their living conditions.

Still in computer limbo.  New laptop has some issues.  Seller not overly helpful.  No word on lost data yet.  What with trying to limit my time on the precious "old" drive, which doesn't have much room for a ton of photos, I'm still not taking that many.  Getting a little bogged in all the stuff that needs doing/doesn't work around here, so, just not being very creative  
Managed to straggle out for the pic-a-week though.  Miki went back out to the garden to check out the "alien flowers".





Umm... this was a wee bit underwhelming.  It's very tall, and the branches were a surprise, but I kept ex-pecting the flowers to open into little stars or something, but they didn't.  This is as open as they got.
