As a fun thing this year, I signed up to a yarn "Advent in July" thing with a local-ish to me dyer. (They're in Tasmania, I'm in Victoria). For 12 days starting 1 July, I got a little parcel to open that had a mini-skein of differently coloured wool.
The theme for this was "My Favourite Things" from The Sound of Music. I'll post a couple of days at a time.
The big package arrived! Lottie & Felicity wanted to open it all straight away, but Becky said they had to wait.
Day 1 - Raindrops on Roses
it's pink and white and has silver speckles
Day 2 - Whiskers on Kittens
It feels just as soft as actual kittens, according to Becky
More days to come!
I love the idea of the Advent (half)calendar with yarn (or craft supplies in general)!
I've been following your Advent of Wool photos on Insta! They're fun photos even for somebody who knows nothing about knitting!
Your dolly friends always seem quite enthusiastic about each new parcel!
What a fun idea and a perfect thing for someone who loves knitting. Your little models do a great job showing it off.
Wow, those yarns are so cute! How fun to get parcels for Advent! Your dolls look so enthusiastic!
Thanks all - I hadn't originally planned on doing each day with dollies, but the first couple were well received (and the people who did the calendar thought they were a fun way to show off the skeins each day, so I kept it up).
For those (like davidd) who follow my IG, they will be the same photos as I posted there, no new ones until after Day 12 - and then I've got a couple of new ones to share
Day 3 - Bright Copper Kettles
Felicity: We're supposed to put the tea into the cup, aren't we?
Lottie: But the wool looks so pretty curled up like that
Day 4 - Warm Woolen Mittens
I'd had an awfully stressful day at work for this day, so there was no "fun dolly pic" for this one, but I didn't want to miss out the day totally.
Day 5 - Cream-coloured ponies
Roni & Opal claimed this one straight out of the parcel
They might be the ones from your IG, but I still enjoy looking at them again!
I enjoy seeing photos much more on the forum than I do on Instagram. The images are larger, I can take the time to look at them more closely, there is usually more description, and the comments add considerably to the enjoyment. Never worry about "double posting."
I'm not on IG. It's disappointing when someone whose photos I like isn't on anywhere else.
These are cute -- it's really a clever idea. And of course Roni & Opal claimed the pony one
She looks eager to ride away before someone else gets it.
Aww, Finn!
That's so cute!
These yarns are all so lovely, and I love how the dolls are reacting to them.
Finn does indeed look disappointed.
You'll have to get him a treat to make up for it. Or knit him something fabulous

Finn did wind up getting a fluffy new friend, he’s named her Iris.
oops - got Day 7 and Day 8 mixed up.
Day 8 should have been Schnitzel with Noodles.
So swapped 7 & 8
Day 8 (sub) - Doorbells & Sleighbells
Kit was ready to celebrate today's surprise!
Day 9 - Wild Geese that Fly with the Moon on their Wings
Hattie thinks that the colour will make a beautiful scarf that goes with her outfit. And the pelican makes an excellent substitute goose...
