RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - davidd - 02-22-2019

You visited Maui and even Lanai? I've never been to Lanai!

On a vacation trip to Maui, years ago before we even moved there, we almost instantly decided that Maui must be the Hawaiian word for "costs a lot." Traffic was an issue even then. I imagine both the cost and the traffic must be considerably more these days. We only visited Maui once during our time living in Hawaii, and it absolutely poured rain the entire time.

Looks like Lana'i weather was nice. That Maui sunset photo is pretty. I feel badly for you that your trip is winding down, but... but... I am excited to follow your adventures as you prepare to move on to a boat! LOL

Dolls and kitties - that's the best cure for depression!

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Elfy - 02-22-2019

That sunset shot is to die for!

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Lejays17 - 02-22-2019

Bummer about the weather in Lanai, but the sunset shot is gorgeous, and of course there's no such thing as "too cute" when it comes to Pullips smile

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Alliecat - 02-23-2019

"davidd, where did you live?? Yes, we agree ... Maui translates as "costs a lot and has bad traffic". LOL

*FIRST PULLIPS TO CLIMB HALEAKALA!!!*

...OK, we rode up, but are you gonna dispute that?
We're claiming this title until someone proves us wrong.
Tuesday's rain really borked our plans, as Mum would say… We should have gone to Haleakala yesterday when the summit was clear, but we had to change our cat sanctuary plans from Tuesday because of the rain. Today the summit was a cold blowing wet cloud.
Please enjoy this photo of supermodels at 10,023 feet, because that's all the scenery there was to see.
Love, Sunsette"

Yes, take that title until someone disproves you!

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Cornflower Blue - 02-23-2019

Did you go for the sunrise? That was one of the rare occasions I'd get up that early for something on a vacation.

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - GreysPrincess - 02-24-2019

OMG CAT SANCTUARY. I absolutely love that sort of thing!!!

Trailblazing explorers, right here!

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Alliecat - 02-25-2019

"Dear Dolly Market Friends,
Thank you so much to those of you who've followed along on our big adventure.  We appreciate you!
We arrived home yesterday and we're all a little wrecked, and many four-letter words have been said about what we came back to.  Mum says she left a piece of herself in the islands; (fortunately that was all she left and didn't lose anything of all our gear)... and that means she has to go back someday, hopefully soon.
Mum has a million photos on her real camera so we'll be posting some more of our adventures once she starts downloading and sorting everything.  We hope you've enjoyed the story so far... stay tuned.
Yep, we're all about ex.ploring where no Pullips have gone before! LOL
No, we didn't go for the sunrise; you have to reserve well in advance now for that, and we didn't want to set off in the middle of the night.  There may not have been a visible one anyway, that day.
Love, Sunsette"

"AUWE!!!!!!  Oh, Mum, no!!!  WHYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!
PLEASE, can we just go back now????"  Cry

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Elfy - 02-25-2019

Think of what you could do with a surfboard in the snow, though.

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - davidd - 02-25-2019

Ugh! You came home to the same nonsense that I did! It's a shock, isn't it?

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - neon_jellyfish - 02-25-2019

Welcome home! I agree with Elfy, get some warm clothing and turn surfboards into snowboards!

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Dispatches from the field - Cornflower Blue - 03-03-2019

At least you did get an all too brief break from the cold and snow.

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Aloha Hawaii! chapter 1 - Alliecat - 03-12-2019

"Aloha, everybody!
Mum has finally started sorting nearly 2000 photos (she lost count) from 3 devices, so here we go with some more of the story of our Hawaii adventure!
(This is gonna take a while...)

You may recall we started off in a cold hotel room on a yukky snowy night..."

"Mum ventured out in the snowstorm to a chaotically noisy restaurant, and got a stupid amount of food for one person... (what's with these not-we-sized serving sizes??) ... and she hates waste so she had to figure out what to do with it the next day.  Another bag to carry on the plane, and eat before we hit U.S. customs."

"Oh, and there was a bug in the spinach.
Live."

"Here we are at our first airport, waaaaay too early in the morning."
"Wait, where's the rest of the plane...?"

"Toronto.  Yuk.  Marginally warmer.  Tropical dreams about to come true..."

"Finally, a trip on a bigger plane.  We liked the seat-back screen.  Mum smoked all the previous trivia-game players.  We liked watching where we were, since the entire country, coast to coast, was covered in cloud and we didn't get to see ANY of the Rockies."

"Talk to me, Goose!"

"Vancouver airport has a big aquarium display."

"And there was a Chinese New Year display..."

"...and some cool art by native sculptors.  This is made out of whale bone. The longer you look, the more details you see."

"... and this chess board..."

"...and, um... these bears."

"Mum found a quiet spot for our SIX-hour wait.
We are sadly aware that if we lived on this side of the country, we could BE in Hawaii in just six hours."

"Mum shot this because she thought it would make a cool doll outfit.  Anybody wanna try it?"

"On our way again.  Mum was going to do a Thing where we took pictures in every airport we passed through, all NINE of them for the trip, but some were just way too much of a rush and in some she was too tired."

"We get our own seat?!!  Wheeeeee!
... Mum was pretty bummed though, that some guy came and sat in the previously-unbooked aisle seat, so she couldn't lie down.  The last few hours were pretty hard.  We could snooze in our case travel pod, but Mum was awake about 25 hours."

"Finally!  We're here!!  The beach in Kailua-Kona."

"Of course Mum had to photograph this shop."

"And we guess this is one of the alley cats."

"Here we are at a vanilla farm in Kona.  Vanilla orchids by the zillions, and we got free ice cream!"

"Seriously, how could one not want to live in a place with this much wonderful flora?!"

"This is the Ocean Rider seahorse farm in Kona.  We did not get to go swimming with them."

"And we went shopping.  This is where Mum got us the surfboards.  (And later she was mad because they were so much cheaper in Waikiki.)  She introduced us to the shop owner, and she took our picture too."

"Our first beach visit, in Kona."

"...with a we-sized tree."

"It's not really pono to take rocks and stuff (although the source of this belief is unclear)... so this was how Mum ended up taking souvenirs of sand from all the beaches we visited!"

"Aside from the bugs and the screeching midnight rooster, our first Airbnb was good.  Alo and I are getting much better acquainted."

"Well, this is pretty sweet digs."
"Wow. We're in Hawaii."
"Yup..."

RE: The adventures of Sunsette -- Aloha Hawaii! chapter 1 - neon_jellyfish - 03-12-2019

Awesome photos! My favorite has to be girls with the they-sized tree on the beach, but all the flora and fauna ones are beautiful. And lol, they almost named a shop after you!
