Happy Halloween! - Alliecat - 10-31-2017 Dolls are kinda "second childhood" for me, and so is this. Carving pumpkins was something other kids' parents did with them... we never had one at my house. Dunno why; guess it just didn't occur to them. So this weekend I carved my first pumpkin And of course it has to be a photo prop! You might have guessed who would want to play with the knife. She is also (like me) still in denial about it not being summer anymore. Daesani thinks it's hilarious. Petra's not so sure. Sara's wondering who gets to clean up. I love him; he's so cute. I hate to cut him up. But I think it's a terrible waste to throw them away, when everything's edible. So far the seeds and "guts loaf" are awesome... remains to be seen how the puree turns out. No, she's not IN it XD Not to be forgotten, Victor wishes everyone Happy Halloween as well RE: Happy Halloween! - dargosmydaddy - 10-31-2017 Wow! I have never carved a jack o' lantern, but I hear they can be very difficult to cut-- yours looks great! And as always, your dolls (and the lovely Victor) are so full of verve and personality RE: Happy Halloween! - Cornflower Blue - 10-31-2017 Yep, seconding that it came out great! And the girls look like they're having fun. I've carved pumpkins, but I'm not very good at it. I'd rather paint a face on one. Which reminds me that I forgot to paint my mini pumpkins this weekend. RE: Happy Halloween! - renlee83 - 10-31-2017 These are adorable. Great pumpkins, too. I want to carve one now! Been a decade or more since I have. Thanks for sharing the Halloween spirit. RE: Happy Halloween! - GreysPrincess - 11-01-2017 Great jackolantern! And good to see Victor again! I keep saying one of these years I'm going to make Halloween costumes for my dolls but never get around to it... Maybe a jackolantern photo shoot would be a more feasible option for me! RE: Happy Halloween! - Alliecat - 11-01-2017 Thanks, all I felt so reluctant to cut up Mr Pumpkin... he was so cute... but, I didn't want to waste him and if I displayed him for longer he would start to decay, and everything is edible. If it's any incentive for you guys to try it, the seeds, with a little oil & salt plus cinnamon/garlic/herb mix are SO GOOD! If you boil them in salted water for 10 minutes before you roast them they are ridiculously crispy. Lots of recipes online but I found 20 min. at 350F worked fine. And this pumpkin-guts loaf is amazing!! https://eatingrichly.com/how-to-cook-a-whole-pumpkin-and-recipe-for-pumpkin-gut-bread/ Remains to be seen about the puree... maybe not so good from a big pumpkin but we'll see. You just need a sharp knife; a small one works better for small details, and you just go slowly; maybe you just poke it in for a short line and then pull it out and change direction... you can make a pattern on paper and trace it on, to get a design you like. You should try it (11-01-2017, 12:38 AM)GreysPrincess Wrote: I keep saying one of these years I'm going to make Halloween costumes for my dolls but never get around to it... RE: Happy Halloween! - MapleLeaf - 11-01-2017 Love your photos! Congratulations on your first pumpkin-cutting! Your girls seem to enjoy the event and getting their pictures taken with the pumpkin. Victor seems a bit protective of the pumpkin. RE: Happy Halloween! - Offgenemi - 11-02-2017 You all had a nice Halloween ! I still haven’t carved any pumpkin ) I am glad you could eat part of it already pumpkin is yummy! RE: Happy Halloween! - GreysPrincess - 11-05-2017 We always bake our pumpkin seeds when we do jackilanterns, usually with homemade seasoning salt. So yummy! We'll have to try the boiling beforehand, though; never thought of that! RE: Happy Halloween! - Alliecat - 11-05-2017 Thanks! Next time I bake a squash I'm going to try those seeds too! How did I go all this time without knowing how good they are!! |
