RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - Alliecat - 08-26-2020

I remember that show, although I think only a season or two aired on a channel I could get. Or maybe that was all there was? I learn more about some of these characters, like Harley, here, than from all the movies I haven’t watched.

We have Torchwood to thank for getting more Captain Jack goodness.

I have a Funko Baby Groot in his pot on my bedside table, he makes me smile to see it.

Ianto is a very underrated character, even by his own team

I was trying to think up things for this round and then I remembered my figures and was like self, you should take advantage of them and so I am! Also aww on your Funko Baby Groot - does he bop in time to the music?

Ianto was a fantastic character - I remember being at the first SFX convention in 2010 (I won tickets), and his actor did a panel and got a ton of cheers.

I want to as well, but I think I'd only manage the first two series if I'm being honest on the matter.

I will do my best to ex.plain any questions you have. Torchwood was an 'adult' spin-off of Doctor Who... that admittedly took some time to find it's feet because it couldn't really seem to decide on the overall tone it wanted. Ianto was a regular character in it though, and he was great.

There was two proper seasons then these mini-series which all focused around one story and were hit and miss depending on the viewer. Finding out your pop culture knowledge through dolls and figures isn't a bad way though - I found out about Yotsuba&! from seeing the figure of her popping up a lot and thinking it was cute.

This is true. Though I did wish it continue on the trying to get his missing memories that was first mentioned in his first appearance in Doctor Who and that Jack seems to have forgotten about.

239. J is for Joker

[Image: 73964707_4472b123342320bcc29ee6218bbe63f4_standard.jpg]

The Clown Prince of Crime and probably the most famous comic book villain there is. There's been many variations of the Joker throughout his run, and I think my favourite is the animated version voiced by Mark Hamill in Batman: the Animated Series, and the following Justice League cartoons. That's just the version that sticks in my head. This figure is from the same line that my Harley Quinn figure is from.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - neon_jellyfish - 08-26-2020

That's a neat coat! And I do, albeit very vaguely, know who Joker is! Goes to show he's a big name.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - Elfy - 08-27-2020

I've never seen the animated series with Mark Hamill as the Joker, but I know he was a big enough hit that when they wanted to bring the character back in a live action version, they suggested that Hamill at least do the voice. He has appeared in a couple of episodes of the Berlanti DC shows as a villain, the Toymaker I think.

It is a cool looking coat, shame it's on the Joker. And yes! He's one of those ones who's very well known even outside the comic book circles.

Ooh, yes I forgot about that. Hilariously the way they treated the Toymaker did make him seem as though he was essentially the DC-TV verse's Joker.

240. K is for Kamala

[Image: 74008480_8b0064e3a7a0803c8de3f4e15389a4e6_standard.jpg]

Kamala Khan, current Ms Marvel and one of my favourite comic book characters ever. Her history is a bit long to get into, so I will link her wiki page and say that I really, really hope that her live action series happens because I would be delighted to see Kamala made 'real' so to speak.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - Lejays17 - 08-27-2020

She's a great character to look at, even though I know nothing about her at all. Thanks for the wwiki link to get me up to speed!

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - Elfy - 08-28-2020

The Toymaker being that universe's Joker does make sense, because at that time Supergirl took place in an alternate world where there was no Batman.
I can never keep up with all the Ms/Captain Marvels. My knowledge tends to run out with Carol Danvers losing her powers and later becoming Binary to take over from the Silver Surfer as Galactacus' herald.

Looks like you have quite a variety of figures.

I do remember Kamala from your photos, though.

Kamala is one of those characters I will always happily help people fin out more about!

That's true! Plus with all the odd rights issues that tie up the Bat-family characters and rogues gallery means it's unlikely we'd get a proper Joker in the DCTV verse. So I very much am in favour of Mark Hamill's Toymaker being the stand in. Ahhh, yeah that's all very complicated stuff. Comics, man, they like to get very convoluted.

I was collecting figures before I was collecting dolls, really, and there was a Forbidden Planet store near my university and that... probably helped being able to find figures and such.

She's still one of my all time favourite comic book characters, so I like getting as many different versions of her as I can.

241. L is for Leda

[Image: 74055382_33c8326729740966a8ff218f703aba05_standard.jpg]

A BeGoth today! Leda Swanson. In the Room, she's the resident mythology ex.pert, currently holding a Masters in Classics. She's hoping to go and further specialise in other mythologies - she's looking at Celtic folklore next.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - Elfy - 08-28-2020

Ah yes, the world of superheroes really can be mind bending to those without the inside knowledge, and when you throw in the differences between the comics and the filmed versions that just adds a whole new level of complexity to it.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - neon_jellyfish - 08-29-2020

She's beautiful!!! Always happy to see another BeGoth!

You're incredibly not wrong there. There's just so much to try to keep up with.

242. M is for Malice

[Image: 74087676_4360f901eed40a7085ec7ebf63e92bbe_standard.jpg]

Another BeGoth today, and Malice was actually my first BeGoth, and is interestingly enough from the first series of the dolls. She's meant to be based on the 7" figure Malice Looming in Wonderland, but clearly a lot of design changes happened when they scaled up to 12". Still. I like to think of her as the youngest of the BeGoths in a room - a teenager to their early to mid 20s. Somone who is still trying to work out her life.

RE: Werepuppy's A Doll A Day Challenge 2020 - neon_jellyfish - 08-30-2020

Malice is pretty, but I do think they should have kept at least the tophat. But this outfit works better for a young girl, the one on the figure is more mature.
