Yeah, this Diorama-A-Day sub-project is illustrating that concept all too graphically!

Miniature Odd-itorium

Pinky-Street scale (for 3-3/4 inch to 4-inch figures) theatrical stage diorama. This project, which I began in March 2019, was almost but never entirely finished, and has only been used in perhaps three or four photos.

The "anvils" thing was a long-running "inside joke" in the comment streams of a number of toy photographers on the Flickr photo-sharing website at the time.

A Doll A Day -- 11 May 2023

That's cute -- and I think I might recall seeing the Pinkys on stage.
I'd love to see the level of activity here that had "inside jokes".

Yeah, the "inside jokes" are... or were... fun, but there's not that same kind of centralized hobby activity anywhere anymore. People have drifted away from the forums, so you don't have those "core groups" on forums anymore. People have drifted away from Flickr too, although there are a few "regulars" who "hang out" on CooperSky's photostream, which has allowed a number of long-running "tropes," "themes," or "inside jokes" to continue.

Instagram is so instant that hardly anybody pays close enough attention for any sense of community to develop. Just scroll through and "like."

There are, like, four of us here on Dolly Market, but our combined activity level isn't really enough to even be self-sustaining at this point.

Ah well... I keep plugging along, and so do you.

Space Ship Parts

The space ship control room diorama doesn't have, ironically, an assigned space yet, but it has some random pieces stuffed randomly in to random places.

A Tale of Two Scales

The remains of my Pinky Street (10cm figures) U-Boat (constructed back in July 2007) and unfinished Smart Doll (1/3-scale) chairs (started in 2018).

RE: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2023 - Alliecat - 05-14-2023

Is there some kind of spider in today's one? I can't make out all the black pieces. It looks like spider legs.

I begin to suspect your storage "space" is bigger on the inside than the outside, with all these projects in it LOL

Yes, I found a large, and fortunately plastic, Halloween spider lurking in the wreckage of the U-Boat!

If I had more space, I would likely have even more unfinished projects.

Buried Treasure!

I unearthed an entire cafe play set from beneath the clutter in one of my disused dioramas!  I had completely forgotten about having purchased this until I dug it out from where it had become completely hidden.

RE: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2023 - dargosmydaddy - 05-15-2023

Ooh, someone needs to open a snack counter!

What is all the pinkish fuzzy stuff, and is it going to be part of a future scene?

RE: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2023 - Alliecat - 05-15-2023

It looks like insulation, or shredded yarn... hopefully not shredded by mice...!  Oh My

That looks like a fun set.  Could open a cafe next to the tiki bar!

Kinda like me with "available countertop space"  slash

Yup... insulation shredded by mice, raining down from the ceiling. The storage barn is a foul, nasty place right now. I am gradually replacing the "soft" insulation with the hard foam type. The original owner installed the soft insulation, obviously not thinking about mice. I made the same mistake with my initial repair and remodeling projects here. I know better now.

The Old Tavern

This is my not-a-tki-bar pub-tavern diorama. It was originally intended to be a quick set for a couple of quick scenes a few years ago, but I liked it so I kept it and... here it sits. I think Frank can be spotted, still sitting in the corner in the back.

I was going to tear it down and throw it away after snapping this photo, but instead, as I cleared it out, I began to think to myself, "y'know, with a few little touch ups...."
sly

RE: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2023 - Alliecat - 05-16-2023

Srsly, you could build all these things and have a little miniature-village tourist attraction there along with your teepees.

Ewwwww.... mice are living portals to some other dimension. The amount of ...byproduct... they produce is out of all proportion to their size. It's got to be coming from somewhere else.

Cooking Up Timeless Prose

The kitchen dio is functional again.

And I think I'm finally finished posting Derelict Diorama images.

Although I may subject y'all to some Restoration-in-Progress pics.

Nice vintage effect.

The Girls Unload 'Store Bought' Firewood from the Back of the Car

RE: davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2023 - Alliecat - 05-18-2023

Except for the rearview mirror it almost looks at a quick glance as though they're in a small plane LOL
Ya gotta wonder at our disconnect from nature, when we have to buy firewood at a store.
