Beautiful ponchos! They fit the wearers well. .
I agree about the trees. Trees are so happy. We need more of them.

Those ponchos are so cute! I also love how your doll's flower dress fits nicely into a similar flower background! Very cute.

Thank you all
Yeah, a mosquito poncho might work. I'll drape a sweater over my legs & feet if I want to sit outside into the evening. It sort of helps. I don't love spiders either! The garden is taking a lot of time these days so the doll pix are mostly garden-related too. Finallyfinally, we have pumpkins underway, and Red & Samantha went to check them out. Pumpkin Jr. is having twins! Yay!! Whyyyy did you have to flower outside the fence. I couldn't pull the stem back through before it was too big. So, we have to make an extra little chicken-wire surround and a bed for it. "And this one is we-sized!" Last year's squashes grew out of the compost bin. Hopefully at least one this year in the garden; waiting to see if a 2nd flower took. All this pollination requires getting up very early in the morning. It took 5 tries to get this, because there is not enough room to put the camera there and still see through it. I considered posting an outtake with the top of her head. Guess I should've left a bit more room between boxes and fence. A bit overdressed for the hot morning, but she's enjoying the sun. I went back to bed. My wee star hasn't had a portrait in a while.

Ha! That baby pumpkin is trying to escape! That one is going to be a rascal!
You sound like quite an ex-pert when it comes to pollinating pumpkin flowers. So there is only a narrow window of opportunity early in the mornings? And the ants and bees don’t do the work for you? Where do you get the pollen if you have only one flower? I should try planting pumpkins next season. Might be fun to try.

How cute! They're in the little garden, and it's like a whimsical world! I love the picture next to the tiny squash! So cute!

There are bees, and I enjoyed watching a couple right up close and taking crummy blurry photos of them. They were busy, but, I gave them a little help. Watching a bee go park on a leaf and proceed to clean the pollen off itself, I was like, "HEY! that's not where you're supposed to leave it!!" I collected as much pollen as I could get off the male flowers, as there were more of them earlier in the season, and kept it in a little container. YES! you should! Try starting them indoors before planting time for a head start. (08-26-2022, 03:49 PM)Aijo Wrote: How cute! They're in the little garden, and it's like a whimsical world! My little gardeners are showing off the results of their hard work, Mr Pumpkin's twins from his only surviving seed! "Do they work like seashells? Can you hear a garden growing...?" "It could take a while to get these inside..."

Twins from a single seed! That Mister Pumpkin was potent! The twins are an interesting elongated shape, too. Is the shape a result of growing conditions, or the type of pumpkin?

One of their grandparents was a squash; dunno if that had something to do with it! They weighed in at 9.6 and 6.7 lbs. So far I have had 2 small jars of seeds, 6 cups of guts, some fabulous muffins from said guts, some brick ice cream that I had to melt and re-freeze as popsicles. Gonna take a long time to bake & puree both of them (oh, that sounds cruel ) These are late, but, they were a lot of work. Aside from shooting them in the middle of the night, I had to paint out a ton of bad pixels. Always a problem with in-the-dark shots. Anyway, here's the rest of the crew's H'aloha'ween festivities J's who didn't get into the previous shot. Poppy & Daphne had a turn. I gotta take some more pictures of Daphne. She's gorgeous. And of course, the contingent of the crew that really knows how to party! H'aloha'ween camp-in. (Well, it was cold, so it wasn't a campout...) Had to get both the Polynesian girls dancing. Mini parties are the best

The J-Dolls are really pretty! I did not realize you had so many of them! What is it, like, nine? Almost equal to the Amelia Ærodrome in numbers!
The pineapple-o-lantern turned out most splendidly this year! I love the jaunty lopsided grin and the bright eyes, and the straight-across-the-top lid cut! The warm, glowy light is quite inviting. I wish I could be there, and be tiny enough, to join in the festivities. I'm sure that once the dancing is done the scary stories will start! Actually, this pic takes me back to my elementary school teaching days, when I was assigned as a chaperone on the Grade 6 camping trips, and a couple of the other teachers and I sat around a campfire after all the "official" activities for the day were done listening to the students tell spooky stories. And all the stories were "true," of course, having been related to the kids by their parents or uncles and aunties or grandparents -- usually involving "a lady dressed all in white" encountered along a lonely road at night. I heard some spooky tales from adults during my time in Hawaii as well, about stones in the fields that would return to their original resting places when moved, and a strange place called Hamburger Mary's (not the restaurant, now closed, of the same name) where hundreds of feral cats were said to gather. Your last two pics, (and there's even a tent) kind of capture the "vibe" of those campfire spooky tales... and there's even a Devil Cat, no doubt direct from Hamburger Mary's.

The lopsided pineapple grin is a result of my not planning and the knife going a little too fast I don't think you could really cut the top any other way; it would fall in. Ah, the 'lady in white' stories. Was the spooky part what happened to them for not picking her up, or the fact that she disappeared when they did? And of course rock-moving minihune menehune (blame Sunsette; she's sure after visiting Hawaii that they are somehow related -- minis rule, right?)... It would be great fun to sit in on those sessions! Hey now. Don't you know cats are angels with fur?? (11-05-2022, 11:56 AM)Alliecat Wrote: Hey now. Don't you know cats are angels with fur?? Yeah... A few of the crew are in Nova Scotia. The weather is utter crap, so things that need doing aren't getting done. We haven't budged since we arrived on Tuesday. With carwash rain throwing down and a gale hammering the house, the gang had to amuse themselves indoors. Fortunately there are some Christmas decorations.
A few pix at an Airbnb on the way here. Contemplating her favourite colours. Where Big Sis goes, Lil Sis goes too. Our house-sit location has these pretty candles. It was impossible to capture the see-through effect of the stars with the camera. One for next year's Christmas cards!

The candles create a lovely, cozy scene; it looks like a fine place to hunker down and snuggle up during a spell of inclement weather.

More of the same, different day. Weather has been absolutely atrocious pretty much most days so far. Carwash-rain throwing down again today and roaring wind. Pretty much like the last time I posted or maybe a bit worse. Combined with short days, I feel like half of the ex!ploring has been done in the dark. Yay for GPS!
Consequently the girls haven't had much in the way of outings. This was the one-and-a-half sunny days. "This is nice, mum. It looks a bit like home." We found a mermaid, and I really wanted to photograph the girls with it, but given the terrible footing and the huge (for little dolls) crevice against the wall, I decided not to court any further crises on this trip and kept them safely away from it! Our house-sit spot has a wishing well! Make it a big one... "sittin' on the dock of the bay river..." |
