Elfy's Doll a Week 2022

Yesterday was pretty full on, so I'm a day late.

Sophie thought she'd do a spot of reading in the sun, but she's a bit spoiled for choice and isn't sure which book to read.

She looks very much unsure where to start.

Yeah, just in that lot we’ve got fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, mystery and I’m still not quite sure what sub genre Amberlough and The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter fits into.

Too many books, never enough time!

I'd start with the Alchemist's Daughter, myself, just because I like the typeface used on the cover.
They're not dolls, they're action figures!

Theodora Goss is a wonderful writer. The book is basically about the daughters of famous fictional mad scientists meeting up in Victorian London and kind of accidentally starting a detective agency. They’re a lot of fun and Sherlock Holmes even gets dragged into it. The ladies are the daughters of Jekyll and Hyde, a female Frankenstein, a cat lady from Moreau’s island and a poisonous plant lady courtesy of Rappacini.

Overwhelmed by choices, and by giant-sized books!

The one in the top right (well, my right, Sophie's left) has an interesting-looking cover, too, but I can't read the title...?

That's Amberlough by Lara Elena Donnelly. It's one of the ones I can't really classify, it's probably what they call a genre bender. It's set in a secondary world which is very reminiscent of the Weimar Republic in the '30's, but it's not our world. Because of the secondary world thing it's probably classified as fantasy, but it has no magic whatsoever. It is, however, a damned good book. It's part of a trilogy, but you don't have to read the other two, although if you read Amberlough and liked it then you are definitely going to want to read the rest.

Sorry to be MIA this week. I seriously don't know what is happening with my time. I also had a lack of inspiration.

It's Autumn here now, but Ari is determined to make the most of the remaining sunshine. She is having a ball!

Time is certainly flying. The eyes and the one eyebrow behind her hair make her look a wee bit overwhelmed by that great big ball. Cute.

The hi-viz yellow softball makes a fun, colorful photo prop!

I agree, the weeks feel as though they are flying by now!

Possibly taking a lead from Davidd's girls, Jo-Meg and Evie decided to check out our garage and see if it could be cleared out.

"Oh my God, Jo. There's so much of it!"
"Yeah, I know. No idea where to start."

"Evie, at that rate it will take us forever!"
"On the plus side, I definitely know something that I can paint with this."

It’s a daunting task for two large adults, let alone 2 small dolls.

It’s going to be tough cleaning it out.

Oh noooo! A Garage of Doom!

Start with the television set. Nobody uses that kind anymore. TVs are all flat screen now.

Once the TV is out of the way, you'll have a space in which to stand, look around... and start to cry.
They're not dolls, they're action figures!
