This unworthy vassal wishes you a most regal and radiant birthday, your Most Regal and Radiant Majesty!
(Only two years? Her Highness seems somehow eternal, and I would have thought she had been ruling over your little kingdom since its inception.)

Her Majesty said to pass her thanks to her lovely subjects!
Day 266
Autumnal equinox! Today really had autumn feel to it. Leaves start to change color and I've seen the first flock of birds leave (things like first flock to leave/return, first snowflake, first butterly, etc, are very important to me. Can't tell you why, they just are). Autumn is my favorite season, so I feel really pumped today!
I wanted to go out and take a pic of autumn leaves, but the light was meh the whole day, so instead I decided to just take one more pic with my lavender before it withers. So here are last remnants of summer to celebrate the arrival of autumn!
Beware! Filter flood ahead!
I'll pick a non-readhead for tomorrow's photo.

I like the first of the "filter flood photos" very much. It captures the "meh" light of a typical autumn day (at least anywhere that I've ever lived, including Hawaii), highlighted with a "pop" of color: the warm colors of autumn, and the lingering bright colors of the summer flowers.
The birds here have been leaving for a while. The summer swarm of hummingbirds (colibri) is now down to two or three hardy holdouts, the mountain bluebirds are passing through on their way down from the mountains to warmer southern valleys, and noisy flocks of pinyon jays set up camp for a day or two before continuing their trek.

My hummers are gone... We start hearing little birds passing overhead at night in August... I hatehatehate the end of summer... so much long cold time ahead...
But your photo is very pretty. Do you dry & use any of the lavender?

We have lavender. I love that it smells nice and attracts bees.

Thanks!
Last year, I've seen my first autumn flock on September 1, which was more or less the usual time for them. They're a bit late this year. We had very warm first half of September, so I guess that's why.

Aww, I hope you'll be able to enjoy a few more warm days before winter barges in...
Thank you!
Yes, I dry it and hang sheaves near my bed and in my wardrobe, to enjoy the scent. I used to have more, I had four plants, but now I'm down to one, I don't know why, but lavender started dying here. Newly bought plants too. I don't get it, I'm not doing anything differently, they just keep dying. I need to move so that I can have more lavender again. My mom makes THE BEST peach-lavender jam EVER, so I'd like to have more lavender to harvest, plus it's my favorite flower.

Spooky thing, ain't she? Like that girl in The Ring, only with the hair and dress colors reversed.

Quite ghostly. I like the little touch of colour in the second one.
