Hahaha, that's a big saw for those lil girls. Love the perspective on the last photo.
Looks like at least your understructure was OK. That made redecking mine easier too. Yours is coming along there.

Maaannn, that scenery.....

Most of the original substructure was functional, allowing it to be used, with some shimming and jiggering and reinforcement, as a platform for a new substructure which will bring the new deck level with the adjoining deck, eliminating a somewhat dangerous change in elevation between the sections.

Figurin' and Calculatin' and Cuttin' and Fittin'

The original deck included a pergola supported by four "natural" posts set in concrete. One option would have been to remove the largely pointless pergola. The other option is to frame around the posts -- which is what Janie is working on here.

The scale with Janie makes the posts look enormous. The pergola would be a nice place to sit and look at that scenery. Do you still have tourists?

Mighty redwood trunks serving as posts!  LOL

What is the point of a pergola? I mean, it doesn't provide any shade. It doesn't offer protection from rain or wind. It's just there. I might try adding some lattice panels to the roof so it offers at least a little bit of protection from the elements.

Yes, the holiday rental until will be open until the end of October. There are 8 nights still available between now and the end of October. Usually October is completely full. There's a lot more competition in the area now -- like, a lot more competition. "Glamping resorts" are opening up all over the place, offering yurts, domes, and tents, complete with a/c, heat, and resort amenities like pools. Plus, despite what "the media" reports, the economy is tanking for middle class people, which is the primary economic demographic for my units. As the end of the season nears, my temper is becoming similarly short; I'm getting tired of potential guests asking if the $60 tipi has air conditioning or a shower. No, I'm sorry, if you want an air-conditioned tent with a full bath you'll have to spend $300 a night at a glamping resort, so you'll have to get a better job which will put you in to the Top Ten Percent income bracket.
Rawr!

Yay, progress. Looks like it’s coming along.
Maybe people like the idea of sitting in a structure, even if it doesn’t provide any shade. I thought the point was, you are supposed to grow things over them. Trailing plants and stuff. That’s what I would do if I had one.
