Oh, fun! I loved dinosaurs soooo much when I was a kid. There was an Iwanttobeapaleontologist phase.
Hmmm.... I wonder if I still have the wee tiny dinosaurs I loved to play with...?

If I want to outfit a pirate crew, I will need to learn how to sew; and not just basic sewing, obviously, but learn to do intricate and elaborate sewing.

Ermm... well, you could learn to glue... I glued all the hems on my doll-size pirate outfit. There are tutorials out there for making boots too. I've never tried, but... as crafty as you are, I bet you could shape a foot and then you just need a long tube of suede...?
