. So there is only a narrow window of opportunity early in the mornings? And the ants and bees don’t do the work for you? Where do you get the pollen if you have only one flower?
I should try planting pumpkins next season. Might be fun to try.

Yes, when it's hot they're apparently only viable the first half of the day.  I was pollinating them too late.  There are bees, and I enjoyed watching a couple right up close and taking crummy blurry photos of them.  They were busy, but, I gave them a little help.  Watching a bee go park on a leaf and proceed to clean the pollen off itself, I was like, "HEY! that's not where you're supposed to leave it!!" 
I collected as much pollen as I could get off the male flowers, as there were more of them earlier in the season, and kept it in a little container.
YES! you should!  Try starting them indoors before planting time for a head start.

How cute! They're in the little garden, and it's like a whimsical world! I love the picture next to the tiny squash! So cute!
