Ah, yes, the one-handed phone photo dilemma. I encounter that a lot trying to hold up Sunsette and Scarlett for their travel photos.
Too bad about the compact camera. I was going to suggest that you look for something secondhand as I read, but I didn’t know the prices had gone crazy. I have a little Pentax Optio that I got for newspaper snapshots, and it is OK but does struggle in low light also. I can’t say it’s super sharp and of course no control over DOF. Well, hope you will find the DSLR does what you need. A mini tripod might be beneficial if you have camera shake.
