My first thought was Wizard of Oz: Poppies! Poppies! Poppies will put them to sleep!
They're not dolls, they're action figures!

Day 252

I hope you're having wonderfully weird Wonderful Weirdos Day! I wanted something less random, but couldn't come up with a decent idea, and 'random' might be just the right thing for this particular occasion after all.

You manage to get the part in Laura's hair to look so... so "mysterious" and "Circus-style." And pretty.

Isn't every day Wonderful Weirdos Day on this forum? Or am I... uh... projecting?

Laura looks like she's thinking, "Wait, what do you mean I'm a weirdo?" The rest of them are definitely embracing it fully smile

What a fun group shot!
I had to google "tropaeolum". "Um, wut? That's a nasturtium...?" I didn't know the genus name LOL Do you ever make tea from mum's lemon balm? It's nice. Twyla looks a little fearful that flower might eat her.
Good spooky shot too smile

I think the Oddwickshire crew classify as ‘weird’.

Thanks! You might be projecting when it comes to the whole forum, but not in this thread, here, every day really is Wonderful Weirdos Day!

As Elfy said, character I'm using Laura for is a weirdo, so it's OK. I think she might feel a little out of it because her twin sister isn't there.

I was googling the English name, and it did give me nasturtium, however, I found that confusing, because that's genus name for watercresses, so I went with the Latin name. Czech name of tropaeolum is lichořeřišnice. I imagine that it can be quite a scary word for people trying to learn Czech... There's not enough lemon balm for tea, it's mostly there for decorative purposes, we tie it into sheaves and use those as fragrant decorations. But I do like lemon balm tea!

It indeed does!

Day 253

I'm completely uninspired today, so I summoned certain mystery hunter with awesome ability to make any photo pretty...

lichořeřišnice - licorice is nice? Now I'm curious to see if nasturtiums are actually related to licorice.

Two minutes of online "research" indicates... not.

Oh, wait; maybe it's more like liquor is nice! That would ex-plain all the bizarre little bits and bobs above half the letters!

Do you have a dedicated keyboard for typing in Czech to insert all the diacritical marks? Or do you need to use the "alt" and "option" keys a lot? Fast keyboarding in Czech would definitely be a skill requiring considerable practice. Must be a lot of fun on an old-fashioned manual typewriter.

Your lovely "mystery hunter" is... is... gah! I'm forced to resort to emojis:  : Heart 2 Heart 2  Heart 2  Heart 2  Heart 2

Well, you can eat them... Although they're more peppery than licorice-y.
It took me quite a while to get any speed typing in French. Not so much the accents -- I let the spell-checker put them all in in a batch when I'm done -- but the patterns & combinations of the letters are different enough that finger-memory gets in the way.

Thanks everyone! I have Czech keyboard, the most common special characters are on number row (shif+number). Old fashioned manual Czech typewriters also had the special characters on number row. Speaking of typewriters...

Day 254

I knew there used to be an old typewriter at my parents' place, and our recent discussions and pics reminded me of it, so I asked what happened with it. Turns out we still have it!

It's Underwood 5, patents from 1905 - 1917 are listed on the back, but I couldn't find a serial number for the life of me. Dad even helped me look at the bottom (this thing is HEAVY), but I didn't find it. The bell sounds so nice! Here's one more pic without doll:
