Aww.  That's very sweet yay  Thank you.  Mei4Life (Etsy) wings have a metallic finish that reflects light nicely when you get the right angle.  When they're just hatched, the butterflies aren't ready to fly for a while.  I can handle them a lot the first day.  By Day 2 out of the chrysalis, they're generally ready to go.  However, this time of year, it's often cool enough that they don't want to fly either (yeah, same here).  I think they need a minimum of about 13C to fly at all.  They'll 'shiver' their wings to warm up flight muscles (or what passes for muscles in butterflies).  It's warmer than that during the day, but, again, just hatched, they're quite easy to handle.  This one stayed put even when Natalie fell over a couple of times.  Sometimes I will blow on them a bit to get them to open their wings, or gently 'tickle' them.

You have certainly led an interesting, adventurous life, it seems!
Heh.  Well, in between the long boring bits Tongue
Thank you!

Thank you both smile  That was what I was going for.

So, more butterflies...  I still have to sort the rest of Natalie's, plus the rest of Sunsette's weekend... today my butterfly-gardening neighbour brought me 6 more jars of chrysalises because she's going away again & can't watch them.
"Hmmm... who can I photograph today?... the pale dolls wash out so much in the sun..."
"OH, HEY.  I have a BLUE guy!"

We did end up in the challenging contrasty light in the fairy glen out back, chasing little patches of late sun.  So here's Jake communing with nature.

That is a stunning shot with the patches of light.

What an interesting hobby of butterfly growing! How did you stumble into that one? It very different to the sailing hobby, which is always fascinating to read about too.

As LeJays says, excellent use of the patches of light to create an entrancing image.

Thanks, everyone! It's a challenging location with late-day light, because I find a patch of sun but by the time I get model & tripod set up & shot framed... it's moved. Then there all the pieces of deadfall to fall over. At least the mosquitoes were tolerable that day.

Brought my first caterpillar home when I was 10. Dad & I found it on a walk & didn't know what it was. When we found out, & learned that the whole transformation would take only about 3 weeks, we were intrigued. 2 more followed that year, & we were hooked. I had them almost every year after that till we left Ontario; I'd collect dozens along the highways after school. After some years without, I can now get them from the neighbour's butterfly garden which has grown big enough to support them. I got into tagging after hearing a talk about it from a butterfly collector.
I got a lot of mileage out of it for school science projects, & Mom shot quite a few ribbon-winning closeups of them for the camera club.

This week's pic is for the Dal House photo/haiku challenge, but I'm gonna put it here too because why not smile
