This Goff Girl is a Naughty Lass

There are a couple of puns there, just not very good ones.

Janie (Smart Doll Harmony) kicks off A Doll A Day 2023 by showing us a nicely detailed miniature model (actually a Hallmark holiday ornament) of Disney's 'Nautilus' submarine from the 1954 motion picture 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Yippee! I'm glad you are doing another round.
It's up to the few of us left here to keep the lights on!

4 January – Brought, Bought, and Borrowed Books

Brought, bought, and borrowed: too many books, and not enough time to read them.

I have lost track of how long it has been since I read a book, an actual book, from cover to cover, yet somehow the books keep accumulating. Some of these I brought with me on my winter getaway, some I have purchased since arriving, and some I have borrowed from the local library, yet here they sit, in a precarious pile, while I spend my "reading time" online.

I still read, quite a lot actually, but I read piecemeal, here and there, bits of that and fragments of this, on a screen rather than as a cohesive whole between hardboard covers on printed pages.

I often allow myself to become distracted before beginning a book by looking up information about the book. I can tell you quite a lot about writer E.B. White, for example, even though I have yet to read the E.B. White book of essays that has been wedged in this pile for over two years.

Is reading books inherently better than reading online? I don't know.

Should I make a conscientious effort to spend less time online and instead read a book? Again, I don't know.

But here's a picture of a doll with a pile of books, which makes a more interesting picture than would a doll with a computer screen.

Maybe if Triv would pull her eyeglasses down over her eyes rather than wearing them on her forehead as a fashion statement, she could see well enough to read a book.

Yes.
YES!
Or maybe she's nearsighted and doesn't need them to read a book.

I think our attention spans are being killed by the internet and it's much better to read a book than a screen -- I think the information "sticks" better. Plus it's much nicer to curl up on a sofa or in bed with a book than with a laptop blasting radiation through your innards... slash

I'd like to have a comfortable sofa, or even better, a wingback chair with an ottoman footstool in front of a stone fireplace, in which to sit and read. Or a "cozy window seat nook." I really haven't had a comfortable, cozy, reading-friendly space anywhere that I've lived since I was a kid, now that I think about it.

I suppose I could make that an objective for the New Year: create or construct a "reading nook."

One of the books in the pile is actually about constructing small wooden structures, so that's something to think about.

I'm not gonna build my own sofa or chair, though. I just gotta make some money so I can buy myself a wingback chair next winter.

One of the items on my Hobby Goals list for 2023 was: Do some cool outdoor or travel doll pix like I used to!

I think I can cross that item off the list as achieved! Setting up for and capturing this "wave picture" reminded me of how much fun I used to have with my Pinky Street figures. I even got laughed at by amused passers-by as I was crawling around on the sand with my "little dolls," just like in Ye Olde Golden Dayes of Pinky Street photography back in 2005 - 2009.

Oh, fun! I hope you'll do more! It sounds like you had a nice nostalgic time and the photos are great. The beach looks lovely especially today as it rained icy crap all day.
A comfy seat by the fire would be nice.
Not a pellet stove though... have just finished dealing with one for 3 weeks and it's a hard no LOL

“Sail bait” will always make me chuckle. Guess you had to be there. LOL
I’m surprised to hear that a photo story didn’t work out, since you do so many of them.

Been there, done that. Not with dolls though. I'm sure you can get service a lot more promptly than we did. Good luck!
