davidd's A DOLL A DAY 2024
(02-28-2024, 10:41 AM)Alliecat Wrote: I imagine you could get some of the other forum people to join you in that. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for interactive photo stories.

Another lovely day at the beach, sigh…

There are really only one or two other forum members who regularly participate in the interactive topics. There are other people who say they will "when they have the time" but never do. And then there were the ones... several... who said they would like to take part in the Infinite Regression Game but that "it looked too hard."

I mean... you stand a doll in front of a computer, tablet, or even phone screen showing the previous picture and snap a snapshot. That's hard?

So printing out miniature magazines is not something that's gonna generate much interest.

The beach weather is finally getting nice. There was a week or so of nice weather in early November, and since then the winter has been unseasonably chilly, windy, and overcast. Nothing compared to an island in the middle of the Bay of Fundy, but not enticing beach weather, either. But now... as in the last three days... when things are warming up and the wind is dropping off, the beaches are already getting crowded. Had to try three different parks to find a parking spot yesterday.

We are all too busy these days, and finding time to do fun stuff sometimes doesn't happen sad
Winter would be a nice time to be there, before the crowds return. I thought you were walking distance to the beach. Guess it's farther than I imagined?

Walking distance, yes, about three or four blocks (plus crossing the A1A coast highway), so seven or eight minutes brisk walk. I was running errands, so I was in the car.

Now the jerks who work for the county have closed the beach access from one of the parks, citing "storm damage" to the wooden walkway. They keep putting up a barrier on the walkway, and everybody just crawls under it or climbs over it because the "damage" to the boardwalk is negligible, so as of today they've closed the whole parking lot. Just... ENOUGH GOVERNMENT ALREADY!

It's like... they're too flipping busy "protecting us" to actually FIX ANYTHING. It'd take two guys with a few 4x4 posts a couple hours at most, but I'm sure they need to do a "study" first, and then allocate funds, and it'll end up costing $50,000 instead of $50. I just hate society.

You have quite a fun little crew there. Is he still doing the show?, I can't remember but I think I read you could send him photos... you should!

Bummer about the boardwalk/parking lot. I'd probably walk around it too. Perhaps being on the beach it requires some environmental assessment first? A few neighbours ought to get together and go out there and mysteriously fix it overnight.

Yeah, probably requires an environmental assessment -- everything does these days -- but what's to assess? It's a wooden walkway that's been there, the last ten feet now sit slightly crooked. Jack it up a few inches on one side, shove some blocks under it, done. Hardly a threat to the environment.

The neighbors on that stretch of beach are the kind whose properties are lined with NO TRESSPASSING signs. They would much prefer if all the public beach access points were closed.

I see today: the county can't bother to fix the boardwalk, but they put up a new sign at the entrance to the parking lot, ON POSTS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE, saying NO BEACH ACCESS. They literally had to jackhammer up part of the sidewalk to put in the new NO BEACH ACCESS sign, but they can't just fix the crooked boardwalk.

The permanent nature of the NO ACCESS sign suggests the county has no plans to repair the beach access ramp.

I'm starting to hate it here in Florida.

Rugged Peril

.

I almost gave up on Doll a Day today. I'm just not feeling it. I'm also "peeved in advance" because I shall be Away From Keyboard and unable to post during the third week of March and again during the first week of April. The first week of April away-ness might last longer than a week, depending on how long it takes to re-establish Internet connectivity in the wilds of rural Utah.

This pic is a major crossover event featuring a magazine cover designed by Capt. A. E. Sable of The Dominion Geographic Society (aka @mistersable on Insta) with a cover photo of Professor Jeem of The Danger Force Adventure Squad (aka jim_junior_becker on Instagram) and a setting styled by yours truly (aka @the_dolly_dungeon on Instagram).

Wow -- that sucks about the beach! That's one more thing hampering my new-home search; access to salt water when so much waterfront is "owned" in so many places. Someone put up a no-trespassing sign here in a spot where EVERYONE has ALWAYS gone to watch surf in a gale. That caused some uproar. Long ago someone told me that when new people came and did this, they might come home to their doorstep to find the signs neatly piled there with a bit of gasoline and some matches -- a hint! I don't suppose anyone would do this now. It's easier to complain on facebook.

Aw, sorry you are discouraged with ADAD sad Do you have a smartphone you can post pics from along the way? It's a bit of a PITA but if low-tech-me can do it anyone can!!
Are you heading back before the eclipse? Honestly, I'm so sick of hearing all the dire traffic and "shortage" predictions; they make it sound like the freakin apocalypse.

That is a pretty cool crossover idea. I wish we could do stuff like that with dolls here.

I know, right? I mean... shortages?  sly

Why can't anything just be, like, "hey, this is gonna be neat, you should try to see it" anymore? Instead, everything, even fun stuff, is turned in to a dire catastrophe with warnings to stay inside and off the streets.

CŒLENTERATA-RAMA!

.

Jellyfish have skeletons! Who knew?

Well... marine biologists know, apparently. An article I found offering information about these jelly globs, the remains of moon jellyfish that occasionally drift ashore in Florida, identified this part of the jellyfish as the "mesoglea," or the structural part of the jellyfish; in essence, a somewhat rigid jelly skeleton... a jellaton?.. that holds the rest of the jelly bits in place.

The same article offered this joke:

“Thousands of jelly fish come ashore searching for peanut butter fish. They combine for a tasty treat because of the sand which is there.”

That's science for ya!

....

I see that The Dolly Market Forum is back online! YAY, Christopher... if you're the one who fixed it... and YAY Alliecat... if you're the one who asked for assistance! - Thank You!

Yeah, and, yeah.... AGAIN  >sigh<

What a pretty sky in the beach pic.  Cool colours.  And I did not know about jelletons!  LOL  Are those tentacles in front of the Pinky?  Any I've seen here are completely flattened.

The tentacles of moon jellies break apart almost immediately once they drift in to the shore break. That's sea foam in the foreground from an incoming wave that is circling around the jelly and the figure.

LOL, I can tell it's sea foam xp
It just looks like there are some horizontal lines/structure in the jelly part, and OK, it's kind of behind her but it's kind of in front of her in the direction she's facing, and oh boy, my brain is too scattered right now to be doing this!  xp  LOL

Interesting structure there with Yasmin too, and some fun lighting/filter.

Ohhh now I see what you were asking! D'errrr on my part!

Yeah, the tentacles, when they are present, hang down from that center stalk, which itself is attached in the center of the "bell" or "envelope" (the parachute-shaped round part).

5 March - A Doll A Day 2024:

Not a "new" pic -- in fact, it is ten or a dozen years old -- but today I ran across this old use of one of my photos in a MEDIUM.COM website article:

PEDIOPHOBIA

Out of all the creepy photos of all the creepy dolls in the world, one of my photos... MINE, I tell you... mwah hah hah hah haaaah!.. was selected by the editors of the MEDIUM.com web magazine to illustrate PEDIOPHOBIA: the Fear of Dolls, in an article about "24 Bizarre Phobias."

With that accomplishment, I think I can justifiably claim that my doll photography hobby has been a resounding artistic success!

Note: the dolls are "Scary Dolls" from Kid Connection, a Walmart "house brand" attempt to cash in on the Monster High fad, circa 2012 - 2014.

Hahaha.... I wonder how some of those people would like the legion of dolls standing on the piano staring at them in my living room LOL (I really need a cabinet; sigh)
I have never "got" this -- why people are bothered by them. I mean, some old dolls look a little sad and creepy maybe, but you can't lump all dolls together. And is the "creepy doll" thing a native fear one is born with or something we are told to think by society...?
