Ugh, that's too cold... It only reached negative numbers here with the wind chill, and that was still way too cold for me. Supposedly it's going to be 60 by Friday here, so hopefully you get some warmth, too.

It's thawed somewhat and was back between 0 and 5 the last couple days. Despite that and the sunshine I'm still not super enthused about shooting outdoors this time of year.

A two-fer this week cos I had one extra pic.
Been battling scale on this cyclamen forEVER. It looks particularly good at the moment, a bit surprising after its disrupting trip to Nova Scotia. I took it because I thought it needed more attention than the every-5-days-plant-watering-person. The plant is at least 28 years old.

I guess I've never given a lot of thought to the longevity of houseplants, other than one that my grandmother had all through my lifetime as long as I could remember.
But taking a houseplant with you when you're out of town -- 'kay, that's something I've never heard of before!
Perhaps the holiday change of scenery was a welcome change of scenery for the cyclamen.

But taking a houseplant with you when you're out of town -- 'kay, that's something I've never heard of before! I took it because when cyclamens get dry -- which this one does often -- they wilt and then will lose their leaves. It doesn't follow the every-5-days very well. I also took the temperamental little kiawe tree -- souvenir of Hawaii 1996 -- which is fine one day and totally dry the next, after which it will also drop a ton of leaves. And a nearly-dead orchid I'm doggedly trying to save, probably a lost battle. And the wee Venus flytrap, which has not survived They just all need looking at more frequently.
I recall a botany professor saying many plants are basically immortal -- as long as conditions are right they just keep growing, and if you take cuttings, they still live on. And someone I knew claimed she had a Christmas cactus that came from a cutting that came from a plant that came over on the Hector.

Another rough day in the never-ending construction zone
A little late-night dolly therapy. I can't even get really motivated for creative pursuits these days but anyway...

A kiawe tree that's been with you over a quarter of a century? That's neat! But... it sounds like you're going to need a portable hothouse trailer to tow with you when you head out of town!
Well... the the Dal-entine Day pic is adorbs.

Thanks, both
The kiawe is kind of a bonsai; it's never got taller than a couple of feet. Probably because it's so "sensitive" that the least little bit of dry makes it shake off a ton of leaves. Too bad it's not a cool shape like a bonsai. Just scraggly. I wonder if I could properly bonsai-ify it...

Luxurious white carpet!
Where I live, a carpet like that would not be white or luxurious for very long!
At first glance I even thought that the bench behind the girls with the crocheted doily... I mean antimacassar... or in dolly scale, an afghan... was a Christmas season manger scene until I looked closer.
The carpet makes very effective snow. There are even "tracks" left by the kitties.

Well, it's a little bedside rug that I got recently because I liked them at an Airbnb and asked where she got them. It was a purchase I didn't really need, but it was soooooooo soft. I've done yoga on it and it's mostly sitting rolled up for now. Perhaps I will use it in the mythical "next house" -- ha!
I'll have to think about what snow scenes I could do with it. Thanks for the great idea

I immediately thought snow as well, and was therefore kind of confused by the rest of the scene. Everything appears to be sinking into it in a snow-y way.

LOL you guys. I thought the wood panelling and the curtain would set the scene. Just goes to show the audience doesn't always get what the photographer's thinking!
The neighbours from hell were away for the weekend, so I got two whole nights in my bedroom and an afternoon to play in the backyard. Alas, they're back, and it's back to sleeping in the basement tonight
It was nice for a while. I actually dressed for crawling around in the snow this time so my winter-outdoor-picture enthusiasm lasted through more than a few minutes. It was "only" -4.
And now I have a really early head start on this week!

That girl is so hot she's gonna melt all the snow!
Glad you got two days to yourself.
Shoulda sent Hot Girl next door for a little arson fun while the neighbors were gone.
