She looks a little apprehensive about setting off into the wild. Doesn’t look much like winter there yet.
I feel like as usual I am required to say “oh, look at that lovely wide open space!”

. Yet again, a seasonal melancholy sets in as Frank finds himself questioning the choices
he made throughout his life and wondering why the bright Future promised in his youth never materialized.

When I was a kid I used to think of the Night After Christmas as being the beginning of a new year because Christmas festivities seemed like the culminating event of the year and the next Christmas is now an entire year away. . 26 December - A Doll A Day 2024: . Bratz Yasmin finds herself back in the boondocks... which admittedly have a certain rustic charm. . . 27 December - A Doll A Day 2024: . Pinky Street Aya, from the Greatest Tag Boxx series, the figure that led to my Pinky Street obsession and, ultimately, to my interest in a wider range of doll, toy, and action figure photography.

Christmas in Vegas? That's where the owners of this house I'm staying in went! What's the attraction?
Oh, that scenery pic is nice! So this little Pinky is the equivalent of my Sunsette, the one who started it all? Neat!

28 December - A Doll A Day 2024:
. Ari tries to snap some dramatic and artistic toy photographs.
In this semi-autobiographical photo (I'm not a girl, nor do I have a cozy fireplace), Ari struggles with the same challenges I often deal with; namely, a lack of sufficient, or sufficiently versatile, lighting. After two decades of toy photography during which I have been fussing around around with desk lamps and flashlights, I decided to pamper myself and splurge on the purchase of some "real photography lights." I have a few items on the way via mail order (or online order, whatever it's called now) from LumeCube, and a couple of small Joby Gorillapods to use as supports. Merry Post-Christmas to me, I guess. 28 December - A Doll A Day 2024

That's a great setup. It looks so realistic. Hope you have fun with your new lights. --That means another round of doll-a-day, right? RIGHT???

In my case, relatives living in Las Vegas were the reason for being there during the holidays. There is little in Vegas attractive to me personally. The city is growing at an absolutely insane rate, with the desert being filled up with condos and townhouses. The air quality is abysmal, some of the worst I've ever eksperienced -- and remember, I've been to Beijing! The cost of living is high, taxes are high, and the price to do anything "fun" in downtown Las Vegas is more than I want, or can afford, to pay. The Joshua Trees were pretty cool. I've driven by Joshua Trees frequently, but I've never actually stopped and walked up to one before. Yeah, I suppose Pinky Aya is similar to Sunsette in that she was my "gateway" to doll photography. It was a photo of Pinky Street Aya I saw on Flickr that inspired me to invest in a few Pinky Street figures. The Aya figure was more ekspensive than the basic figures, so I did not acquire one until later. (12-29-2024, 12:03 PM)Alliecat Wrote: That's a great setup. It looks so realistic. I was seriously considering, and even planning on giving up A Doll A Day at the end of the year. I've found the process frustrating and unfulfilling and un-fun this year, especially when my ability to post consistently is interrupted. I haven't been happy with my photos, I'm not happy with my cameras, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by the clutter and chaos I have allowed to take over. Just today I spent over three hours looking for... well, I'll let my A Doll A Day caption eksplain that. But in short -- yeah, at the moment it looks like I'll tackle A Doll A Day again. Of course, my mood may be completely different in a couple of days. I invested some time "catching up" on Flickr comments today. I was hoping to get similarly caught up on Dolly Market, but other stuff took too long. I'll get to it. There appears to be a lot of fun stuff I really want to see, dating all the way back to Neytiri's arrival! 29 December - A Doll A Day 2024: . Emerging from Limbo
. Korvettekapitän Sonja and The Brain's Personal Assistant return from Dolly Limbo. Sonja most recently appeared in A Doll A Day, or in any of my Flickr photos, in 2018. Her previous appearance was circa 2007. I can find no photos of The Brain's Personal Assistant more recent than 2009. . I found these two figures while searching for 1/6-scale pirate costumes I had recently misplaced. After probably three hours of searching I found the pirate costumes in a box that I almost dismissed with "there's no reason they'd be in there." There was no reason for one small flat plastic bag of doll clothes to be in an otherwise empty enormous plastic storage tub, but there they were. I also found The Brain. That would be The Brain to whom The Brain's Personal Assistant is the personal assistant. I used the three-plus hours of search time to flatten and remove several (like, two dozen) cardboard boxes of various sizes, and to condense some scattered items, ultimately resulting in three empty plastic storage tubs, so yay for that. All that searching and sorting took so long that I wasn't able to organize and re-dress my pirate figures, which is what I really wanted to accomplish today. The pirate crew needs to be ready because... something's gonna happen soon-ish that could impact them directly. Except, now I'm all excited and distracted by Pinky Street again! Finding Sonja and The Brain's Personal Assistant (that's the only name she's ever had) and The Brain means... ermmm... that I need to relocate Fräulein Ilsa and Moesephine and the Tamae Twins, whom I saw not too many weeks... or was it months... ago, and then maybe I might feel inspired to pick up my Pinky Street storyline that fell dormant in... 2009-ish. Speaking of which, I think glimpsed one of the Bratzillaz trio (Yasmina) through the translucent side of a storage tub. That story has been dormant for a while as well. Pirates and Pinkys and Bratz -- I guess that's actually something to feel excited about. And here I was seriously considering giving up on A Doll A Day once the New Year rolls around. Looks like that's not gonna happen. Old dollies rediscovered, new dollies on the way, a few recent arrivals still to unbox, and new lights coming, not to mention a possibility for a bit more traveling; plus, I'm seriously considering investing in a new point-n-shoot compact camera. Seems there's always something to pull me back in for one more round. 29 December - A Doll A Day 2024
