Did you bring a lot of Hawaiian souvenirs with you or did you end up buying them later once you got homesick?

Some of each.

And speaking of feeling homesick for Hawaii....

Potential Pinky Street Revival

About ten years ago, shortly after I moved to Utah from Hawaii, I began to miss Hawaii and to miss the beach house diorama I had constructed there for my Pinky Street 10cm / 4in doll figures, so I started work on a new diorama for them. The project morphed in to a pub or "dive bar" with an exotic surfing theme.

Real life has a way of getting in the way, and the diorama project never got finished. Indeed, it barely got started before being stashed away in the back of an increasingly cluttered storage shed.

Recently, while I was "surfing" Flickr (as one does), some older Pinky Street figure photos caught my eye; some were my photos and some were by others. As a result, I felt the dormant embers of my Pinky Street enthusiasm (which once bordered on obsession) begin to "flickr," and I began to think about resurrecting and perhaps even finishing the "new" Pinky Street pub project.

So here it is. Garish, in'nit? I used some surf stickers from Hawaii, some pictures from a couple of cardboard beer cartons, and for some of the wood trim I repurposed a few wooden blocks from a set of home-made blocks that my grandpa made for me when I was a wee li'l kid, practically Pinky Street size myself. Well, maybe not quite that small, but originally I was too young to even play with blocks. Thus, those wooden blocks have been around pretty much my entire life. I do not remember a time when they were not around, usually in a box at my grandparents' house, and later when they came in to my possession.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do here, but I'm starting, or re-starting, by glueing back together some pieces that have fallen apart.

ReMent Resurrection

Recently, while I was "surfing" Flickr (as one does), I ran across a photo of a ReMent miniature bar set, which reminded me that I had purchased that very set quite a number of years ago with the intention of using it in my Pinky:st pub project. The ReMent set has sat since, still in its shipping carton.

Until today. I finally opened the shipping carton.

This is supposed to be a "complete set." The original ReMent bar came as "blind box" packages, with several packages required to complete the entire assembly. I hope it is actually complete.

In looking on eBay today, I see that the asking price for a complete set is in excess of $200 USD. That could possibly put a damper on my project. For two-hunnert bucks, I might be better off trying to sell the ReMent bar! However, a look at "sold" listings indicates a recent real world selling price of $60 USD. Adjusted for ten years of inflation, that's probably less than I originally paid. In that case, I'll keep the bar set and carry on with my build.

Haha, yeah, always look at "sold" listings. Asking prices are frequently stoopid.
Your wee gal in the first 3 pix looks a bit sad that things have fallen into disrepair. Might be fun for you to finally finish it. And how sweet that you still have your grandpa's blocks from small kid time. What a great idea to include them.

"What d'ya think? Should we move in on the Pinky Street turf?"

"I dunno; there are only two of us and a lot of them! I mean, like, a LOT of them!"

The 1/12-scale (about 6 inches tall) surfer girls scope out the new digs that are being constructed for the Pinky Street (about 4 inches tall) crew.

"Does mean we've gone gorpcore?"

"We don't look like surfer girls anymore!"

"Yeah... maybe we should redecorate this place, make it look like a log cabin or something!"

"With a big stone fireplace! Yeah, that'd be neat!"

The 1/12-scale (about 6 inches tall) surfer girls attempt to acclimate to a change in style.

Emily returns!

.
I found a boxed example of the Ashton-Drake Emily the Strange doll on eBay recently, complete with the mail-away Mystery plush cat figure.

Yes, the price was hideously eggspensive, particularly compared to what I sold my Emily the Strange dolls for five years ago. Who knew the price would escalate to such absurd levels? While, I'll repeat, hideously ekkspensive for a poorly articulated plastic doll, the price was "reasonable" or even "pretty good" relative to current asking prices for this figure. Examples complete with the mail-away plush cat figure are particularly difficult to find.

I was foolish to have sold the Emily dolls I had collected. I wish I had not done that. Oh well, now I have one again.

Kurisu Redux

.

Max Factory FIGMA No. 098 Makise Kurisu Action Figure

I once had this figure, a decade or more ago. I snapped all of four photos of it, and a couple of years later I sold it.

Now I've bought it back. Probably not the exact same one. Rather, I've repurchased a Figma action figure like the one I used to have via eBay.

Why? So I could post a picture to the Figma-Nendoroid World photo group on Flickr.

The Figma-Nendoroid World group is a nearly dormant Flickr photo group that one of my Flickr contacts still posts to on occasion. That one contact is pretty much the only person posting to the group these days.

Izzat crazy with a kapital "K" or what, re-buying a toy I sold off ten years ago just so's I can post pix to a Flickr group that nobody looks at?

I'll help ya with the answer: yeah, it's totes kray-kray. Or maybe imbecilic.

I don't even like Figma figures (altho' admittedly this one looks pretty cool). They fall apart way too easily, just as badly as the über-fragile Revoltech figures. That's why I sold the one I had.

Now I have another one. Another one of the same one.

My old pix of this fig were all taken using a Lensbaby camera lens. I used to have a Lensbaby lens. I sold it ages ago. And guess what? I ended up buying another Lensbaby lens. That was a couple or three years ago, and I haven't used it since it arrived. I should find that Lensbaby lens (I think it's out in the storage shed) and use it to take photos of my new-old Figma Makise Kurisu figure. In the meantime, I've used a janky phone camera filter to quasi-emulate the Lensbaby look (i.e. kinda blurry around the edges).

Return of the Lensbaby

.

Figma Makise Kurisu, recently returned to the Dolly Dungeon fold after a decade away, resurrects the long-dormant Lensbaby 3G, similarly absent since 2014.

I sold my original Lensbaby lenses after I moved to Utah ten years ago. My DSLR camera had been "lost in transit" -- at some point my camera equipment "disappeared" from a shipping tub during the moving process -- and I had no use for the inekspensive novelty lens.

A few years later I began missing having a "real camera" and I replaced my DSLR with a new Canon EOS 80D. Some time after that, I began idly checking eBay for early Lensbaby lenses, thinking it might be fun to revisit the weird, wonky ways of the "First Gen" Lensbabies. I ran across an excellent deal on a 3G; I'd had a lot of fun with my original 3G back in the day, and the one I found on eBay was listed poorly and included a lot of accessories, including a metal padded camera case, for a low starting bid.

I won the auction for the lens, and the lens has remained in its padded case ever since it arrived five or six years ago. I have yet to try it out.

Now that the Figma figure, which I previously photographed using a Lensbaby lens, is back in my collection, perhaps it's time to pull the Lensbaby out of mothballs.

One more thing to add to the too-long list of "goals", right?
That's awful about your camera disappearing from the shipping tub; do you mean, like, someone in the moving crew stole it??

What's a "mail-away plush cat figure"?
Yes, I am too lazy to go look this up xp

Yes, my DSLR gear was apparently stolen during the move. The move was chaotic and the movers were disreputable at best and... it was a long time ago and I still get all worked up when I run across reminders of that process.

The Ashton-Drake Emily the Strange doll included a certificate that could be mailed in to receive a small black plush kitty figure. The kitty is visible inside the box in the photo. In my previous ex-perience with Emily figures, either the coupon was not mailed in (I believe there was a postage charge to receive the cat figure) or the kitty has been lost.

Pinky Street Messerschmitt Car

.

Another "nostalgia buy," and I'm pretty stoked about this one: the Pinky Street Messerschmitt car.

Even back during my peak Pinky Street collecting days, circa 2005 - 2008, I could never bring myself to pay the necessary price to add this fun little set to my collection. Recently, however (it's 2025 now), while scrolling through Pinky Street listings on evilBay, I found this Pinkymobile listed for far less than what the going price was in The Olden Dayes, even with shipping! Factoring in twenty years of inflation, this was practically a steal -- the equivalent of about $19 in 2006 money... when back then they were selling for, like, forty or fifty!

And after all these years, it's never been opened!

Of course, that fact results in a dilemma: open it, or keep it sealed up as a memento of the fun times of peak Pinky passion?

Ahh, so it was opened, (eek!) and someone already sent for the kitty.  I wondered what the mail offer was when there was already a cat in the box.
