The Adventures of Sunsette -- Holiday housesits, Jan. 9
"Thanks, fishy and davidd.  We hope you had a nice Christmas too."

"Here's one more pic of us on the PEI bridge, to add to our previous trips.  The GPS looks funny here because it's not usual for it to show the line with a blue background!"

"While we were there we went to see the PEI Christmas house, which was kinda neat.  The road conditions, however, were not.  We made it there and to see 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' (yaayyy!) and that was pretty much as far as we went this time."

"So... we thought the weather was kinda crummy last week, but, UGH...  We are now at housesit #2, and so far we have been iced in for 2 days, then snowed in yesterday when we got about a foot of snow, and the wind chill is minus a million.  Mum said a LOT of four-letter words digging out the car, and she says we aren't doing any more dead-of-winter housesits without garage parking.
"I mean, we'd love a winter sit in Hawaii, but that's out for now... or until they separate."

"So we're not doing much except sleeping, eating, listening to Hawaiian Rainbow and watching Top Gear Channel and Avatar stuff on Youtube."

"Still... it could be worse wink ...  This house has a wonderfully private yard and NO neighbours in sight.  So, we're good here."

I was wondering if you had seen the new Avatar film. Relatives saw it, said it was impressively cool in 3D.

No neighbors in sight -- so in other words, you wouldn't mind living in this particular house?

Top Gear -- I read a comment by Jeremy Clarkson recently in which he explained why he's pretty much done with doing automobile programs. He said he's become too fat and too old to fit in the cars he'd be interested in driving, and he has no interest in doing a program about cars he doesn't like.

"Mum might have gone to see it again.  A couple of times." LOL

"Definitely not.  It's cute as a cottage, but far too small, has no basement or attached garage, getting out up the steep driveway after a snow is a major effort, and although it looks a bit design-magazine-y, it has a variety of design features that go in the 'why did someone think this was a good idea?' category.  Still, we loved the peace and quiet."

"So after being iced in and then snowed in, we got out in the yard for about 10 minutes, but by then it was so atrociously, abysmally bone-breaking COLD, that was as long as we lasted."

"There's a cute little lighthouse overlooking the river."

"I'm sure it's nice in the summer...."

"There's a boardwalk and some dunes nearby, but everything was covered in snow over a layer of ice, and it was about -15 with wind chill on top of that.  So, another 15 minutes outside and that was all."

"Driving up the shore road, we got really excited when we saw these masts ahead."

"It's.... an antique shop.  Um, OK.  And closed, too bad."

"These are Mum's housesit buddies.  The orange one is into everything, so we all had to stay out of reach."

"The next round of forecast freezing rain didn't materialize, so we made it back here OK.  Bummed as usual to have to return.  We told Victor about our adventures."

"We still have some past adventures we haven't posted yet.  But, that's all for this trip.  Thanks for reading!"

Nice place, on the river... with a dolly-sized lighthouse and close to the dunes. These homeowners must be loaded. And then, what, they escape to Sint Maarten or somewhere equivalent in the winter? Nice life... if you can afford it.

Speaking of Sint Maarten (or Saint Martin), I was there briefly last month, and the whole time I was thinking, if I were a bit (or a lot) younger and had fewer entanglements, I would move to Sint Maarten, learn to speak Dutch (and probably French), and try to get a job working on a boat. That would be it -- almost as good as Hawaii (haven't been anywhere as nice as Hawaii, honestly. Tahiti comes close.).

The ship-shape gift shop looks like fun. The masts look fairly realistic -- to a landlubber who has never been to sea and who has never hauled on a line to hoist... anything. Too bad the place was closed. It would be interesting to talk to the owners (if the current owners are the builders) about the place.

The cold, though... that's intense. Intensely unpleasant. As in, can't do anything outdoors. Add in a little wind to those temps for extra fun.
