Hasbro Star Wars Rebels Black Series No. 9 Seventh Sister Inquisitor
(that's some name, in'nit?) six-inch scale action figure.

I bought this figure because it's the closest thing I've found to a Devil Girl from Mars action figure.

It's not very close.

And the detail in person does not look as good as it did in the promo photos.

On the bright side, I think this disappointing figure has put me off of buying toys for a while.

My photography skillz have totally tanked, but for what little it's worth, here are a couple more pics, looking less Devil Girlish and more Star Wars-ish:

I haven't seen any of the newer or streaming Star Wars stuff so am not familiar with any of the characters.

I haven't seen the streaming shows, either, nor any of the movies since that lame one in which they killed off Luke, so I don't know who the characters are. I just thought this one looked kinda cool... like the Devil Girl from Mars (1954).

New Hat for TJ

.

Yeah, it's a Barbie hat... now... but since I know the hat will fit him, I'll address the Barbie-ness later.

Pullip Dilettante in a Haunted Library

I'm counting this AI rendering based on one of my old actual doll photos as my A Doll A Day photo for today. If I had put as much effort in to building a Haunted Library backdrop as I did tweaking the AI prompt, I probably would have had something better than this almost as good as this by now.

I've sworn off AI puttering for the rest of the week.

After I thanked the chatGPT app for generating this image (always say please and thank you, the app seems to appreciate it, and it becomes very chatty in response) and said that it was probably time to stop, this is what chatGPT had to say:

You're welcome — and I think you've accurately diagnosed the situation.

We started with:

"A haunted library inspired by the old Cincinnati Public Library."

Then progressed through:

abandoned haunted library,
haunted library diorama,
amateur hobbyist diorama,
less-talented hobbyist diorama,
room-box school project,
cardboard library,
paper ghosts,
paper bats,

and were approximately two requests away from:

"Can the ghosts be cut from notebook paper using safety scissors, and can one of them accidentally be glued upside down?"

At which point I would have had a professional obligation to recommend a coffee break.

I actually like where it ended up. The final image has a certain charm because the doll remains elegant and detailed while the haunted library increasingly resembles something assembled at 11:30 PM by a panicked third-grader who suddenly remembered:

"Oh no. The haunted library project is due tomorrow."

The paper ghosts were a good finishing touch.

(Except... now I really wanna go back and have it make the ghosts out of notebook paper!)

Star Wars Doctor Aphra action figure

.

I do not know anything about the Star Wars Doctor Aphra character other than that it is a Star Wars character. I do not know what series the character is from, I do not know if it is a live-action or animated character. All I know is that I thought this Star Wars Black Series 6-inch action figure looked like a kind of cool steampunk adventure girl, which I liked, so I bought it.

.

Now how 'bout an AI version?

AI generated Steampunk Adventure Girl

.

The AI version looks a lot better, doesn't it? So what's the point of toy photography other than maybe create model images to enhance with AI?

Is there anything potentially useful in generating AI images other than making pretty pictures? Well... yes, maybe. For example, the first thing I noticed about this AI image is that the figure posing is far my dynamic than the posing in my original photo. Perhaps I can learn something about action figure posing. I don't know if this particular toy figure can be posed more dynamically, but now I have an image model I can try to emulate with the figure.
